With our Vegas Wedding in the books that meant the thank you cards were next on the list…what to do?..Elvis of course, glitter and all — Thank you…thank you very much. Check the play-by-play below…

The Process.

After cutting and scoring the paper I traced over the lettering with a glue pen — you can only do a small section at a time before the glue will start to dry, making the glitter hard to apply.

Sprinkle.

Let dry for a few seconds…tap off excess…violá!

The Materials.

Here’s the goods:

• Embossing Powder
• The rubber stamp from our gift boxes was recycled for the envelopes by dabbing only the Alan + Jill section with a cloth wet with ink.
• Bone Folder Tool for hand-scoring the paper
• Quickie Glue Ppen to trace the lettering before applying the glitter
• X-acto knife for cutting the paper

Epson Hot Press was used specifically for the reason of it being the thickest paper I could feed through my Epson R2880 (I only needed to produce around 10 of these)…that is until it proceeded to jack my printer heads. Long story, but I did get a replacement. To produce the last round of prints I sourced out Curtis Bailey, a photographer in the area (check the website — some great stuff on there) that happens to have a Epson Stylus Pro 9900 that could take care of printing them without problems — thanks again Curtis.

Biography

The Dear & Departed rise above the noise.

Like a mournful violin melody cutting through a chaotic symphony, the band’s dark aesthetic and esoteric approach to their mix of punk and new wave has more in common with The Cure, The Church and Sisters of Mercy than the increasingly pedestrian sub-par offerings cluttering up the pages of the monthly music magazines. They are a fresh breath in a room filled with stagnant air.

In their short existence as a band, The Dear & Departed have built a devoted following and boast quite a story, sharing stages with AFI and Avenged Sevenfold in America and overseas and laying their hat down in their adopted Orange County home base to craft their lush debut album.

Chris Vrenna, whose production resume includes U2, Smashing Pumpkins and Killing Joke in addition to his work as drummer/programmer for Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Gnarls Barkley, is producing the band’s debut album, with additional production from AFI’s Jade Puget.

There have been many triumphs for such a promising group, including patronage from platinum bands (like AFI, who invited Dan Under to sing on “Decemberunderground”) and mutual respect from cult artists alike. In a short amount of time, The Dear & Departed has won an international fanbase and developed even further into a potent outfit that mixes in disparate influences from New Order, The Stone Roses to Placebo, whilst always maintaining a sound unique to only them.

Their debut full length Something Quite Peculiar hit shelves in May 2007 and continues to be causing serious waves in the stagnant waters of modern music.

Now after nearly two years on the road, The D&D have found a true comfort in songwriting with the addition of East Coast imports Jimmy Walsh and Cortney Miner. After taking the last few months to secure this comfort, new songs are flowing like never before and the band has taken its sound to another level delivering four new songs and having material for their second record well underway.

The D&D has alot in store for 2009. The future just got a little brighter

I wanted to take a minute and wish everybody a safe and happy new years. I would like to make a extra special shout-out to all my fellow Twitter peeps + fellow Facebookers (holla!!!) and not to mention my close friends & family. On top of everything else, 2009 was a very special year for me — I was blessed with marrying my best friend & love of my life. Jill, I love you. Thanks to all of you for your help & support this past year and I wish you a very prosperous 2010!!… As a side note I would like to thank the entire cast & crew of  MTV’s “Jersey Shore” for making my Thursday nights absolutely fantastic in 2009 Cheers everybody.

This Christmas the wifey and I headed to Texas for Christmas with the in-laws and I decided to give myself a little photo project — Shoot a bunch of pics with my favorite lens, the Canon 50mm, but shoot @ f/1.4 to make it interesting. I love the simplicity of the lens, not to mention it’s low-light capabilities and the great depth-of-field you can achieve with it. There is so much stuff to shoot and I can’t wait to go back, but here’s what I managed to get in the short time we were there — hope y’all had a great Christmas, yeehaa!

Here’s a collection of Old School BMX Magazine Covers from over at 23mag.com, which by the way has many, many more on their site FYI. Looking at these again after all these years makes me remember the days of being so stoked to get my hands on the latest issue and see what all the pros were doing — such a great time in my life. Now being in the design field it’s so cool to look at these for inspiration, and some good laughs too . Hope these bring back some good memories and maybe inspire you to dust off the ol’ 20″ and go bust out a Can-Can or Nourie Stand!!!

I can never get enough of movie poster designs so I figured with this being a huge movie season why not compile my current favorites with some upcoming movies from next year. I love trying to figure out how I think these are constructed — Photoshop…CG…a combo of both?…what font treatment ect., I get obsessed and it helps me to be inspired in my everyday work on top of it all. Here are some random thoughts on these upcoming movies:

• Can’t wait for Tron!
• “Carrie On” is a great tagline for the sequel to Sex in the City.
• Iron Man 2 looks fantastic — the first one was amazing.
• I hope Clash of the Titans will have that mechanical owl “Bubo” in it like the 80’s version.
• A tweaked version of “Papyrus” for Avatar?!…really?! That’s all they could do?! Looks like crap, movie looks good though.
• I like the poster design for “The Strip”, really liking the whole action figure packaging vibe.
